Technical Assistance Grants

Be the first to know when grant applications open.

City Thread’s Playbook Technical Assistance Grant program helps U.S. communities turn ambitious plans into finished projects, faster.

The program assesses a community’s readiness for implementation, identifies key barriers, and creates a roadmap to move from planning to action. The result is a stronger foundation for delivering visible results and sustaining progress over time.

What’s in it for my community?

Selected communities receive a clear set of support and opportunities, including:

  • A site visit to better understand your community’s goals, partnerships, resources, and opportunities for implementation.

  • A Readiness Assessment of project delivery, leadership commitments, and community support.

  • An Action Plan with clear priorities and next steps for strengthening partnerships, securing resources, and moving from planning to implementation.

  • Exclusive access to local workshops and national events to share lessons, strengthen relationships, and learn from communities tackling similar challenges.

Who can apply?

Any community or organization across the U.S. can apply for a technical assistance grant, no matter where you are in your process. The Playbook can work in small towns and growing urban cities, and on any project type, from quality housing to public spaces.

What do we need to have in place?

  • A partnership between local government and a community-based organization.

  • Letters of support from at least three community representatives.

  • A local cash match of $15,000.

  • If the match feels like a barrier to applying for a grant, please don’t let it stop you. Reach out to us, and we can brainstorm ways to secure funding.

A clear, detailed assessment of where our city's internal and external strengths and challenges lie – and a roadmap for next steps – was the most valuable benefit of participating in the Playbook Technical Assistance Grant program. With City Thread's help, we hope to put the plan into action and build the mobility network our residents want and need.
